I took this piicture in front of the West Station. Vienna streetcars are red and white, the colors of both Austria and Vienna. We stayted at the Ibis Hotel, the large building in the background.

This is what the subway in Vienna looks like around 5:30 (am) on a Sunday. When Joe and I had walked around town the afternoon before, everything was terribly crowded and you couldn’t really enjoy (or photograph) a lot of the things that make Vienna great. Joe had arrived by night train in Vienna the morning before and told fabulous stories about how empty the streets were this early in the day. So this here is one of the very rare occasions where I got up really early in the morning to see sights and take pictures mostly undisturbed. And I really did not run across many people until I started on my way back into the hotel to grab breakfast with the rest of the guys.
The stickers above nearly every seat in a Viennese subway train tell you to surrender your seat to pregnant women, women with kids, blind people, and the elderly. There were a couple of other riders on the train, but clearly not a lot. During the day the subways are usually very crowded and one is lucky to get a seat at all…

This is the "Praterstern" station, about 5 minutes from the hotel in which we stayed.
